I recently had the awesome experience of spending three nights at the latest accommodation on offer in the Bo-Kaap, bordering the CBD, Cape Town. Having travelled the world residing in the top hotels or alternate venues on offer, “Rouge on Rose” Boutique Hotel is certainly the latest on top of my list and definitely worthy of a mention.
‘Spanking new’ and having unofficially opened 1st December, I had the choice of three styles of rooms offered on one of three floors – two self-catering or one non-catering suites per floor. I chose a self-catering suite that had everything required to create a gourmet meal.
The décor is a calming white/beige, practical furnishing both new and old mix. The plasma TV screen, telephone and other details made this all a pleasurable experience. The bathroom has ‘state of the art’ finishes for the yuppie businessman or couple, with a great shower (my personal preference)
.Hotels always have the ‘standard’ basics, but my suite had an all encompassing ‘minimalist’ lounge, dining room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Thankfully with none of the usual patterned carpeting, stylish floor finishes and hand-painted wall murals added another interesting dimension throughout the hotel. This ‘gallery’ by local artist Daniel Popper is worth a visit.
With no time to cook, I had the choice of numerous top class restaurants, bars and theatres literally within minutes walking distance. I really enjoyed the history of the Bo-Kaap with the colourful sights, views of Lions Head and the local Mosques sounding their calls at sunset and dawn.
Safety first, transport is readily available with the local Rikki taxi’s and Limousine’s as required. Testing this service, it was easy to attend the Artscape Theatre Centre’s “High School Musical”, the historicalNew Space Theatre’s “ASSASSIN”S opening night and On Broadway supper theatre just minutes away! Heritage Square, De Waterkant, Lifestyles on Kloof and the famous Victoria & Alfred Waterfront restaurant / shopping centres are literally within one to five minutes distance.
An on-site bistro will be opening soon for optional breakfasts and lunches. Currently not ‘disabled friendly’, the lift-shaft has already been ‘sunk’ in advance, so watch the future press for details!
This new addition to Cape Town is a must visit!

The Rouge on Rose was a pure delight, beautiful, creative rooms and an easy going ambience and service far in excess to our expectations.
The owners Ursula and her son Michell ,are the perfect hosts and are a wealth of knowledge of the city and the best places to eat.
The Rouge on Rose can be summed easily with"nothing too much trouble",we are reccomending it to all our freinds and we are going back most certainly.
